Water Absorption: Ensuring Moisture Resistance

Water absorption testing determines how much moisture a tile can absorb, which directly impacts its durability and resistance to staining, cracking, and weather damage.

Our testing method involves:

• Measuring the dry weight of a tile

• Immersing it in water for a fixed time

• Measuring the wet weight to calculate absorption percentage

Typical absorption rates:

• Porcelain tiles: Less than 0.5% — ideal for exterior and wet area applications

• Ceramic tiles: Between 3% to 7% — suitable for indoor use

Low water absorption not only extends the life of a tile but also reduces maintenance issues like mold growth and surface discoloration.

Flexural Strength: Measuring Structural Durability

Flexural strength testing measures a tile's ability to resist breaking under pressure — a key factor in determining its suitability for heavy-duty flooring or wall applications.

Our testing method uses a three-point loading system:

• The tile is supported at both ends

• Force is applied at the center until it breaks

• The breaking point is recorded in megapascals (MPa)
